Sports Meet in New Era Public School is a very important event. The whole atmosphere vibrates with a strong House spirit. The staffrooms and the classrooms are all abuzz with the talk of the House athletes, House teams and points to win and lose.

The selections for the House teams start a fortnight before. The teachers as well as Sport Captains prepare and mentor their athletes so that they are at their best.


The Inter House Games include Badminton, Table-Tennis, Volleyball and Throw ball in six categories of Sub Junior, Junior and Senior Boys and Girls. The competitions are held over the whole year and culminate on the Sports Day with 100 mts,200mts ,400mts,800mts and 4 into 100mts relay.

New Era Public School, Mayapuri (Senior) celebrated its Annual Sports Day at the Hari Nagar Sports Complex on 9 December 2011. The grounds looked festive and colorful reflecting the mood and the spirit of the students. Everyone waited anxiously for the events to begin and these were to include Marching, Athletic Events, Yoga and Drill Display.

The Chief Guest Air Commodore M. Baladitya, AVSM was welcomed by the Founder Principal and Director Mrs. Usha Chopra and the Principal Mrs. Vandana Chawla with great fervor.

Then as the drums sounded the beat, approximately 320 students of the eight Houses—Anurag, Chetna, Jagriti, Kirti, Pragati, Prerna, Shradha and Smriti began the March Past. As they marched to the beats of the drums smartly turned out in their uniforms displaying their solidarity to their Houses, they were applauded by everyone present. While addressing the students Mrs. Chopra emphasized the significance of physical exercise in the daily routine. Air Commodore M. Baladitya reiterated the need of sports and games as an integral part of a school curriculum.

The Student Council led by the Head Boy, took an oath and pledged to abide by the rules of the athletic event with honesty and integrity. They also vowed to keep the New Era flag flying high. Divyansh Dev, the Head Boy, then read out the Annual Sport Report and lauded the performance of the school teams in the Zonal Badminton, Volley Ball, Basketball, Athletics and Football Championships.

The Principal Mrs. Vandana Chawla, in her speech, stressed the importance of play which rejuvenates the inner child in the young and the old alike.

The colorful drill displays by different groups of students were vibrant and rightfully appreciated as the students made beautiful formations and moved about gracefully in sync with music. The yoga display was breathtaking as the students, efficiently and expertly, showcased their talent through various asanas- teaching the spectators the ways to maintain a healthy body and a healthy mind.

The athletic events that followed brought the ground to its feet as the students cheered their favourite athletes and teams. It was a question of the Championship after all! The 4X100 mts relay was the most popular event of all and as the runners took positions the tension was palpable as was the excitement .As they began running, the track marshals had a tough task of keeping the excited supporters out of their way. For once no one complained about the noise level! The relay decided the winners and those who just couldn’t make it inspite of coming so close!

Finally it was time for the awards. The Chief Guest, The Director and the Principal gave away the medals to the winners of the events of the day. They had words of encouragement for each medal winner who stood on the platform to receive the medal and get photographed! The trophy for The Best Outgoing Sportsperson of the year 2011 went to Lakshika Chauhan of class XII.

Anurag House bagged the trophy for The Best Marching Contingent. The Runners Up trophy went to Prerna House. Smriti House were awarded The Championship Trophy for the year 2011 and Anurag House were declared The Runners Up.

The Sports Meet ended on a joyous note for many for it was a fruitful culmination of weeks of hard work and planning. It also ended on a note of achievement and fulfillment for those who played fairly working as teams to win points for their Houses proving yet again that all it takes to excel is the team spirit and the game played with true sportsmanspirit.
