PARVATHY BAUL


New Era public school was graced with the presence of the renowned folk bowl singer, Ms. Parvathy Baul on 24th November. She came to perform in the institution under the aegis of SPICMACAY. She sang various folk Bengali songs and played two instruments- duggi and ektara. The programme continued for an hour. The students of classes 6 and 7 got a chance to behold this spellbinding performance. Ms Baul translated all the songs to English after singing them. She even invited some questions from the children related to her instruments and singing. She responded to all the questions in a very detailed manner. It was an enthralling performance as it brought the students in touch with the classical roots of our country.

                                                            

 PANDIT VISHWA MOHAN BHATT


Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt is another popular figure in the realm of classical music who performed in the school under SPICMACAY on 22nd November. He is credited with the invention of the Mohan veena. He is anointed with several awards such as Grammy award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. He was accompanied by ace table player Abhishek Mishra. It was a 45 minute long performance wherein he played the Mohan Veena. The students of classes 9 and 11 witnessed the performance. The auditorium was reverberating with the notes of his veena. Our students will never forget this day.

    THE SYNC 2017


    New Era Public School organized the sixth edition of Annual Inter-School Tech Fest SYNC on 21st Nov 2017.  SYNC was started in 2012 under the guidance and blessings of Ms. Usha Chopra, Founder Principal and Director of New Era Public School, Mayapuri. In a timespan of 6 years, SYNC has provided a platform to a group of talented enthusiasts to express their technical and intellectual skills. Taking forward the legacy this year , the event “Multimedia Presentation” focussed on the simmering topic – “Have we lost Our Humanity”.

    SYNC 2017 saw the participation of 18+ schools of Delhi/NCR and more than 200+ participants from class IV onwards. The other events included Frame by Frame, Creative Event, Coding, Scratch your Brain, Gaming and a Surprise Event. The participants were not only able to express their imagination and creativity in 'Scratch your Brain' but also showcased their skills in the Creative Event of website designing. The events like 'Coding' and 'surprise event' tested the critical and logical thinking of the participants. 

    SYNC 2017 started with the welcome ceremony of the participating schools and the esteemed panel of judges for the multimedia contest which included Mr. Amit Verma ( New Delhi based Photojournalist working with Forbes India Magazine), Ms. Vaijayanti Savant Tonpe ( An award winning writer and editor of children’s books and magazines for last 28 years ), Ms Poonam Rathore (Senior Talent  Specialist at Artect Information Systems, Noida).

    Scratch your Brain Event was for classes IV and V. One team consisting of two students participated from each school . Each team had to use the software 'Scratch' and were asked to design a scene promoting cleanliness in the school. The event was judged by two IT professors, Ms Himanshi Bhambri and Ms. Sarmistha Sharma, of IITM, who appreciated the efforts of the students.

    In the Creative Event of Web Designing, the students of classes VIII to XI showed their talent and creativity by designing a website for an Event Management Company using HTML, CSS or JavaScript. The event was judged by Mr. Vishnu Aggarwal (Director, S3 Techhnolabs Pvt. Ltd.)

    Frame by Frame was an event based on Photoshop. It was meant for classes IX to XII.  Participants clicked photographs related to the given topic and then edited using Photoshop. The event was judged by Mr. Mohit Chawla (Tech Expert and graduate from Kings College, London) on the basis of creativity, originality and appropriate use of the software.

    Coding Event was for classes XI and XII. Two students from each school participated and  worked with Code Blocks/ Turbo C source code editors. Each team was asked to write programs on the  questions given to them. They were given a total of six questions in two rounds. Teams were judged on the basis of their problem solving skills, efficiency of the program and time taken to solve the questions.                                                                                                                  
    S
    urprise Event was a surprise for the participants in which two students from each school participated. They were asked general technology related questions in the preliminary round. Qualifying teams were taken to an open area to play Snakes and Ladders where they could move ahead by answering tech questions . The teams on the top three positions were selected as winners in the end.

    The Gaming Event was open for classes IX to XII where all the young gaming enthusiasts from each school participated in three gaming rounds to beat their opponents in the games like CS and FIFA.

    SYNC saw the teamwork and sportsmanship of all the participants. All the winners were felicitated at their respective event venues. With a lot of vigour and enthusiasm, SYNC concluded with New Era Public School, Mayapuri winning the first position in Multimedia  contest. Ms. Usha Chopra and Ms. Vandana Chawla graced the occasion and motivated the children to be a part of such events whether they win or lose.  Their presence was a great source of motivation for all the participants. In the end, Ms. Chawla expressed her gratitude to all the esteemed judges who spared their valuable time for gracing the event and made it a grand success.

      The 11th R.L. Chopra Memorial Creative Writing Competition 
       
       
      The 11th R.L. Chopra Memorial Creative Writing Competition was organized by New Era Public School, Mayapuri on 16th November 2017. This literary event was instituted in the memory of Late Shri R.L.Chopra, the Founder Chairman of New Era Public School. Mr. Chopra, an avid reader himself, was of the firm belief that reading leads to refinement and enrichment. This event marks the school's commitment to foster a culture of reading in students. 

      The occasion was graced by the dynamic Director Mrs. Usha Chopra, who welcomed all the participants and the charismatic Principal Mrs. Vandana Chawla, who is always a source of inspiration. Mr. Rohit Chopra, Director of NEPS, Dwarka, Mrs. Kanwal Kohli, Principal of NEPS, Dwarka and all Headmistresses from various branches of the school were present to witness the event. Four eminent writers, Rashna Imhalsy Gandhi (The Emerging Feminine), Bubbles Sabharwal (Dude, it's about Attitude), Manju Kapoor (Difficult Daughters) and Aanchal Malhotra (Remnants of a Separation) were invited to take part in a Panel Discussion and share their thoughts with the students, particularly on the challenges of writing. 
      Around 27 leading schools of Delhi/NCR participated in the competition. The books explored this year were- The Emerging Feminine by Rashna Imhalsy Gandhi for English and Mrigtrishna by Sudha Murthy for Hindi. It was an enriching and overwhelming experience for everyone present.  The winners for Creative Writing, both English and Hindi will be announced on 8th December, 2017 .

      The participants displayed an in-depth understanding of the issues raised in the novels and impressed the author’s with their analytical questions and won their appreciation. This one day long literary festival reasserts the significance of literature in our lives and helps us to understand the world better.
