27 January was a special day for the new Student Council as they were handed over the baton by the outgoing Council. The preparations for the Day itself had begun two months ago when the hopefuls desirous of wearing the badges, filled the nomination forms. Each form was scrutinized carefully and the achievements, strengths, capabilities of each candidate were discussed by teachers at length. The final verdict was given after the principal had interviewed the candidates for the white badges. All in all, it was a month full of tension and expectations for the youngsters specially.
Finally on 27 January, a special assembly was held to badge the new Student Council. The entire school was present waiting to cheer their new Council and bid goodbye to the outgoing one. The Director, Mrs. Usha Chopra and the Principal, Mrs. Vandana Chawla together badged the New Council. The first ones to ascend the stage were the White Badge holders- the Head Boy, the Head Girl, the Vice Head Boy, the Vice Head Girl, the Co-Curricular Captains and the school Sports Captain. The Director handed over the school banner and the flag to them and pinned individual badges on their lapels. Then was the turn of the eight House Captains, their Vice House Captains and the prefects.
The leading group was Anurag House, followed by Chetna, Jagriti, Kirti, Pragati, Prerna, Shraddha and Smriti. House Captains lead their teams up smartly and were badged by the Director and the Principal. After this the entire Council took the Oath of Office promising integrity, good team work and sincerity while discharging their duties.
The Director, in her address, congratulated the students and emphasized the need of imbibing leadership qualities. The Principal too congratulated each one of them and spoke about the necessity of being focused and determined. The outgoing Head Boy and Head Girl talked about their experiences during the year and conveyed their good wishes to the New Council. The new Head Boy and Head Girl too addressed the gathering and promised to work sincerely with their team upholding the values taught by the school. The assembly ended with the singing of the national anthem and on a happy note for the New Council as they look forward to a year of challenges and fulfillment.
