(The Lighting Of The Auspicious Lamp)
NEPS Mayapuri has been associated with the DSLP right from its inception in 1988 soon after the launch of the National Literacy Mission by Ministry of HRD. Under the aegis of DSLP, NEPS has been involved in the Literacy mission in the following ways:
- Adult education through Each one – Teach one programme.
- Learner support programme (Academic support to young learners, who are school going).
- Vocational training for women and girls of our community.
Students and teachers joined the literacy marches, wrote poems, plays, stories, made posters on the importance of being literate. We take pride at the fact that for twenty three years we have continued to make our humble contribution towards the movement.
The coordinating centre of the DSLP constantly aims at keeping up the enthusiasm of the member schools, students volunteers, social workers and also the confidence of the learner’s participants. The coordinating centre run by Springdales Education Society, located at Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan is a hub and central control office playing the role of motivator provider and adviser. It is due to their constant contribution & efforts that our spirit and enthusiasm remains undiminished.
Here at New Era, we celebrate the International Literacy Day in a unique fashion by organizing week long activities. These include competitions for students volunteers & their learners in song, poetry, declamation, street play, posters, slogan, cartoon making etc. Each year we get the privilege of hosting the Literacy Song competition. The weeklong celebration also includes a learner’s dance competition for which our dance teacher prepares them for folk dance performances.
In our association with DSLP, our students volunteers have been able to make many learners literate. Also we have expanded our sphere beyond providing basic literacy; we have adopted communities and basties, opened vocational centers, using our own resources and producing rich creative and varied work.
Presently the courses being run at our Prayog Vihar community are- dress designing/stitching, tailoring and beauty culture. Women and girls from the EWS (Economically weaker sections) benefit from this scheme tremendously.
Each year at the Literacy Mela and at our Annual School Fete, the learners showcase the products that they make in their vocational training classes.
This year we took our learners on an excursion to the Akshardham temple. Our school has also won many laurels like the trophy for special achievement in vocational training. Apart from that each year our student volunteers and learners receive scholarships for their outstanding work in the field of literacy.
